Sponge Cola Live in Singapore

Sponge Cola is one of the most popular rock bands in the Philippines. The group was formed on 1998 with the members composed of Yael Yuzon (vocals), Gosh Dilay (bass), Erwin Armovit (guitars) and Tmac Cruz (drummer).

They had their first live concert in Singapore on 2009. And their second concert was just last Sunday, 19 June 2017 at the Bigbox (Jurong) where they kicked off their latest release ‘SinagTala’. It is said to be one of the top albums featured in iTunes. The concert gate opened at 5pm and the opening band was the Dead Macoys.

The opening band – DEAD MACOYS

I was a big fan of Sponge Cola and other Filipino artists since I was in High School until College. Sadly, I eventually got disconnected from Philippine music when I left for work in Singapore which was five years ago and it really felt so great to get re-connected last night. They played some of my favorite songs like ‘Tuliro’, ‘Nakapagtataka’, ‘Jeepney’ and ‘Bitiw’ to name a few. Everyone sang with their songs and got their heads banging. I am pretty sure most of the audiences from yesterday are having throat problems right now. But it was surely worth it! 😀

I loved the stage set up and I was drawn by Yael’s (Sponge Cola’s vocalist) wittiness on stage. He constantly interacted with the audience even to the ones watching from their homes. There were some audiences who were video calling their loved ones and faced their phones to the stage so they can watch too. It was really meaningful to personally witness how Filipino artists are soaring internationally, making our fellow Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) drive their home sickness away.

Sponge Cola did the concert in a uniquely fun way where they requested the audience to participate in filming for a music video and everyone should be very lively and shouting for more. Indeed, everyone excitedly cooperated too well that even after Sponge Cola’s supposedly last song and was preparing to exit, the crowd were still cheering for more.

Sponge Cola about to take their exit after their supposedly last song.

They were moved with the audiences cheers that they returned to the stage and put back their music gears on for one more song as a thank you for the overwhelming response. Below is the video. Anyone knows the title?

Anyway, enjoy!!! 😉

Oh! By the way, this was honestly the first live concert that I have ever attended. I won free tickets (for two, worth $55 per ticket) so I tagged my cousin along! Special Thanks to Paolo Avis of Random Republika for the awesome Sponge Cola experience!

Open When Letters: A Perfect Gift For Loved Ones

Few months back, my man has to be away for a while (until now -.-). It is quite sad. There are really some things in life that goes beyond our control. We just have to accept it, be patient and strong. Anyways, he was going through difficult times back then. Three days before he had to go I knew I wanted to give him something but I just couldn’t figure what it is. If you have followed my previous blogs about giving presents, I am not that type of person who just simply buy stuff outside. I love making them on my own and sprinkle some personal touch.  So, I searched online and ended up making him some “OPEN WHEN LETTERS”. I know I can’t fix all his problems (sometimes I can make them even worse for being such a drama queen. wOoopss! #girlmoodswings) But at least I hope it may somehow help us while we are apart or especially when he is  feeling down.

Open When Letters are some letters or packages that you give to someone important to you (like your man/girl, a family member, a close friend…) Each letter is supposed to be opened on a very specific occasion. It reminds me of the book PS : I love you, in which the female protagonist has to open each month a letter written by her beloved husband who just died. These letters helped her to overcome her loss and become stronger. They were so full of love and showed how much her husband knew her. I really loved the idea (and the book, you must read it if you haven’t !).

Anyways, I learned about this idea from Pinterest (there are really a lot of amazing stuff from there). I added some exciting twists on it. If you check online, you can mostly find just about 10 example letters. For me, I got 26! ^_^ I hope it is enough to cover while we are away. In every letters, I left a space for him behind in case he feels like writing back (in response). I’d love to read them when I finally get to see him again. I also got someone to keep my letters secured. Who? Keep reading.. 😉

Here are the 26 letters I made:

I am sorry. The photo above is not that clear so I have listed them out for you:

  1. Open when….. you first received these letters
    • It’s about why I am giving him the letters and the rules. Yes! There are rules! Here you go:
  2. Open when….. you are sad
  3. Open when….. you are happy
  4. Open when….. you are super tired
  5. Open when….. you need a good laugh
  6. Open when….. you need a hug
  7. Open when…. I am being grumpy
  8. Open when…. you are sick
  9. Open when…. you are bored
  10. Open when…. you are stressed
  11. Open when…. every 18th of the month
  12. Open when…. you are worried about the future
  13. Open when…. you don’t feel attractive
  14. Open when…. you need a reminder of how much I love you
  15. Open when…. you miss me and our dates
  16. Open when…. you need a cuddle
  17.  Open when…. you can’t sleep
  18. Open when….. you need a motivation
  19. Open when….. you are mad at me
  20. Open when….. you are mad (but not at me)
  21. Open when….. you are having a bad day
  22. Open when….. you are crying
  23. Open when…. we are having a fight / misunderstanding
  24. Open when…. you are jealous
  25. Open when….. you are in love with someone else
  26. Open when…. you want to break-up

They are just ordinary envelopes which are made out of recycled papers. I cut them according to my desired size (considering the size of my box of course). I drew some cutie stuff on it to make it more colorful, more interesting and more exciting to open. Inside are a bunch of our sweet and crazy photos, some cute clip arts, mind games, short stories, my favorites quotations and my personal messages according to each topic in the letter. If you want to make your own and you need help on what to put inside, feel free to let me know. I’d be happy can help! (:

Below are some of the photos of the letters that he have already opened and shared with me. He had already written some stuffs behind too which is only meant for me to read so I blurred them off. Opps! Sorry! ^_^

ed 2

So here’s the one whom I have entrusted my letters to. Her name is Yana! 😀

I wanted my letters to be handy, safe, secured and creative as much as possible so I bought a box from Daiso (Yep, it’s for S$ 2. 00!). And since I love digital painting, I painted a face of a girl and pasted it on the cover of the box (glad the colors were nicely matched!). I named her Yana which stands for You Are Never Alone”. Whenever he feels emotional at some point, Yana is a reminder that in every up & down moments that he encounters, he is never alone. He got me….inside Yana! 😀

The Box.jpg

Some people would say that we put too much effort in a relationship that will not last long (and all those negative vibes). For me, I don’t really care. I am aware of the consequences and I am happy I did it especially he’s been through a lot recently. And in general, I do things in my own decision. Just never be afraid to take steps in showing your love especially when they’ve been always there for you. Savior every opportunity while it’s still there and while you still can.

I hope you enjoyed this article and gave you an idea on how to do yours for your loved ones – boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, husband, brothers, sisters, parents, best friends and all! Cheers! 🙂

Super Heroes in Combat Boots

Reading posts about the siege in Marawi, Philippines, reminds me of my Father;
…how he never get tired of narrating his military life again and again during his time…
…how he willfully submitted his innocent ‘civilian self’ in the military at a very young age and get used to the rigors and demands of being a soldier..
…how he spent many months away from home; lengthy hours of drill with insufficient food & shelter; inadequate health care support during horrible sickness; and countless days spent marching on hot and dusty roads…
…how he bravely fought against the impulsive terrorists in Mindanao.

If I am watching the news beside my father in Cebu right now, I’d probably be hearing his story again (and I’ll never get tired listening). It was a life and death experience he would never forget. He risked his life & fought for our country. He is a hero. Indeed, me and my siblings are lucky children born in this world after our father survived from a Mindanao war and met my mom.

I salute all our soldiers who chose to be out there right now in Marawi and fight for the peace in our country. If the Maute Group uses hostages as human shields, our military forces courageously offer their selves to be the country’s human shields.

Remembering the “Fallen SAF” (Photo from

I am posting this not just to share my father’s great story as a soldier nor express my nostalgic emotions right now. I am posting this to invite everyone to pray for peace in our country. I may not be a religious person who reads the Holy Bible at home or pray the Holy Rosary everyday, nor am I a person who goes to church every Sunday to hear the Holy Mass. I believe each of us has our own special way of keeping our relationship with God. We all pray together regardless of which religion we belong; Muslim or Christian. We are one people who worship one God. This is not a perfect time to laugh at our soldiers while they’re gearing up for the war and trying to save us while we are enjoying the comfort of our couch, browsing our newsfeed. We are not sending robots out there to fight against terrorism. They are soldiers who have family left at home and are hoping for their return, safe and sound. They are our ultimate super heroes in combat boots.

“War does not determine who is right – only who is left.”

May the Lord enlighten our government to make the WISE and RIGHT decisions. May he STRENGTHEN our soldiers; PERMANENTLY WEAKEN and VANISH this imprudent terrorism. May all the hostages be FREED UNHARMED.

Pray and make a change. Pray for world peace. Pray until the whole world hears.

Gardens at 5

One of Singapore’s famous tourist spot, Gardens By The Bay, turned 5 last 3rd of June 2017. There were host of festivities in celebration of its fifth year, including a dazzling evening show, Gardens Extravaganza Special, taking place in the centre of the Supertree Grove.

There was a 30-minute evening showcase which happened only on 3 and 4 June. As expected, it attracted a crowd of people especially it was on a weekend.

Visitors enjoyed watching dancers and aerial performers perform against a dramatic backdrop of projection mapping on the towering Super trees, portraying the Gardens’ growth from the seed of an idea to the renowned attraction it is today,

After the show at the Super tree, there was also the largest drone display in Singapore put up by a bunch of drones moving in sync to create spectacular formations against the night sky.

Where To Get That Great Summer Escape in Singapore?

Rather than having four seasons, the weather in Singapore is summer, summer, and more summer all year round. But now, school is out, vacations are scheduled, and some folks will use up their remaining sick days for a leave. It is definitely a summer break fever in Singapore!

If you noticed, most people in Singapore are fun in arranging trips to remote countries just to enjoy the beach. Unfortunately,  not everyone gets the chance to do that due to time and work constraints. But fret not!  Here’s a group of friends who just gave us a great idea where to get that awesome summer getaway in this little island of Singapore. Let’s have a quick Throwback Thursday on their “Our Summer Story 2017”!

Phil, Dean, Ian, Irayori and Julienne spent their summer at the Tanjong Beach Club which is located few minutes away from the heart of the city. It is said to be a serene sanctuary located on the finest sun-soaked stretch of sand in Sentosa. One of the best kept secret place in Singapore with clean beaches and some elements of fun and adventure.

On weekdays, the beach is believed to be a calming hideaway from Singapore’s urban jungle, offering a slice of tropical paradise. While over the weekends, the peaceful sanctuary transforms into a celebration of vibrancy and carefree parties that usually attract trendy crow, a perfect way to get acquainted with new friends. It is definitely a good escape from the daily life!

This sizzling gorgeous fellas obviously had a great time at the Tanjong Beach Club. Enjoy more of their  photographs and their short “OUR SUMMER STORY” video tinted with lush summer scenes!

Discovered A Gem From A Trial Shoot

Whenever there is an opportunity to invite, I’d always grab the chance. It always feels great to share. Furthermore, I always feel that there’s actually more potential individuals out there but they just don’t get much opportunity. Some of them are my friends and one of them is named Princess. 🙂

Princess, 28 and a true-bloom Filipino, is a friend I first met from our dance group – The Filipino Dance-Club Singapore. She is not as active in dancing as I am because her work schedule is quite tight. She is working as a Pharmacist in Singapore. Recently, I invited her for a TFCD photo-shoot and I am very glad that she made time despite her tedious schedule at work. It was a very last minute call from the photographer and we did not have much time to prepare our clothes, make-up and everything.  But everyone was on the go and managed to catch up. I was supposed to do 3 looks but since Princess was on joining, we agreed that I will just do 2 and Princess will do 1 look for a start. But while we were in the midst of the shoot, she was doing really great so I suggested that she should do 2 looks and I’m fine with 1.

The photographer was quite surprised because she seemed like a Pro from her facial projections to how she had to position her body and everything else. She is too good for a first timer. She then humbly shared that,“I have a modelling experience in Philippines 5 years ago. It has always been my dream to become a well-known model someday and I am really happy for this opportunity. This will allow me to bring back & unleash the inner model in me. This is also a great way to uplift my spirit from the thought of having to work and live away from my loved ones plus all the stressful environment at work.”

A classy natural beauty

Princess is very flexible in a way that she will really do no matter how challenging the poses that the photographer suggests her to do. According to her,“I need to cooperate well or even improvise some ideas because all we want is to come up with a great photo.”

We were starving during the shoot because we didn’t manage to grab dinner as we had to catch up with the booked schedule of the studio right after work and we needed to get everything done within 2 hours only. It was really quite exhausting. Princess also lost her way going to my place. But gladly, we managed to pull it off and came up with great photos. Two thumbs up to the photographer, Din, for a job well done (as always)!

Flaunting Curves

Extraordinary Chicness

The shoot was few weeks ago and I’ve been really wanting to write about her in my blog. As she shared her lovely photos on her Facebook account, her friends and family were very happy for her. Well, they have a reason to be proud. Princess is a one gorgeous, strong yet humble woman. She has taken such inspiring step for daring to go beyond her limits and grabbing the opportunity despite the constraints. It was a great privilege to be able to discover the other side of her other than dancing. She could be a perfect contender for the next Dream Top Model Season 4.

Indeed, she got it all to be a certified ‘Abys Raider’. Her story deserves to go ‘Into The Abys’ and come out to the world to inspire! It is never too late to chase for your dreams. I cant wait to see more of you, Princess! 🙂

Below are more photos  from the shoot. Enjoy!

We did the shoot at the Pixel Photography Studio. I must say it is not that big. According to the photographer, he was having hard time to find perfect angles because the space was limited. He cannot move and play around. But overall, the place was GREAT! The staff was also very welcoming and friendly. They have almost all the things ready including the make-up area with all the make-up tools, accessories, hair blower, costumes, props  and everything else. We played our own choice of music while doing the shoot. It was very energizing. The place was quite cozy. You can make yourself comfortable on their some sort of ‘lounge area’ watching TV while waiting for your turn to shoot. I love most is the relaxing ambiance coming from the artistic layout in every corner of the place.

Feel free to check Pixel Photography Studio‘s facebook page. It could be a perfect place for your next photoshoot!

UNVEILED! Marina Bay Sands’ New Water & Light Show, SPECTRA!

So, the Marina Bay Sands’ water & light show has been under renovation for a couple of months and I was one of those people who has been checking when it is going to re-open. I heard that they are working for a new show and I was really excited about it. I came to Singapore on 2012 and the show has always been the same. But it is still one of the my favorite place to hang out and I do not mind going alone even for the hundredth time. I also always recommend it to my friends who are visiting in Singapore especially it is a free-to-public outdoor light & water show displayed over the water at the Event Plaza along the promenade.

The new permanent light and water show is named ‘Spectra’. It was unveiled last night, 2 June 2017, at 8pm to steer a new era of entertainment. As expected, the 15-minute show is really mesmerizing with its dancing water fountains, colorful visual arts, inspiring orchestral soundtrack and special lighting effects.  I was not really able to focus much on the show because I was busy taking photos and videos around.  I will come again for that. It is said that it reflects Singapore’s journey as a multicultural society into the cosmopolitan city she is today, with each of the 4 acts seamlessly flowing into the next.

Below is a sneak peek on some parts of the different acts. Unfortunately, I have not taken a full video of the show because my phone memory suddenly  got full 😦

(Opens 2 June)
Sunday – Thursday – 8pm & 9pm
Friday & Saturday – 8pm, 9pm and 10pm

Now that it just re-opened and if you are planning to catch the show, you have to expect a flock of people. It would be better if you can come earlier before the show time and save yourself a good spot.

Audiences enjoying taking photos and video on the show

Along with the Spectra’s opening was also a public launch of the second installment of Open Stage. It is said to be another initiative by Marina Bay Sands to nurture up-and-coming local music acts. There will be free quarterly concert series that will feature brightest talents in music from Singapore and the Southeast Asian region.

Public launch of the “Open Stage”

Both events, which will take place at the Event Plaza, with Open Stage starting at 7:15pm, followed by the light at water show at 8.00pm.

I hope you enjoyed this article. Bring your family and friends and be enthralled in the visually stunning world of ‘Spectra’ with the ‘Open Stage’ music indulgence! (:
